Thousands of people gathered in Minneapolis on Thursday for the first of three memorial services across the U.S. as the country mourns the death of 46-year-old African American George Floyd under the knee of a white police officer.
Celebrities, civil rights activists, politicians and Floyd's family members paid their respects to the man whose death sparked nationwide protests and called for an end to racial injustice.
Reverend Al Sharpton, a civil rights activist, said the protesters may cause change in the nation.
Floyd will be laid to rest at Houston Memorial Gardens next Tuesday.
National dignitaries, including the presumptive Democrat candidate for president, Joe Biden, are expected to attend.
