Moon tells officials to reconsider plans for KCDC research arm

The Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention will soon become an agency in its own right, independent of the health ministry.
But President Moon today directed the government to reconsider plans to put the KCDC's research arm under the health ministry's control.
While the new plan calls for an independent KCDC to respond better to health crises and handle its own budget and personnel, it also enlarges the role of the National Institute of Health now run by the KCDC to conduct vaccine and treatment research,... and moves it to the health ministry.
Some experts and officials have opposed that saying KCDC will still need a research arm of its own.
The top office said a decision will be made in a way that strengthens the KCDC.
