A project to help connect South and North Korea by rail has received a legal exemption, allowing it to skip doing a preliminary feasibility study.
In a meeting on Thursday, the Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Promotion Council recognized the railway construction project between Gangneung and Jejin on South Korea's Donghae Northern Line as part of an inter-Korean exchange and cooperation project.
This means it is legally exempt from having to do a preliminary feasibility study, enabling the envisioned railway to be built more quickly.
The project is in line with the Moon administration's new economic plan for the Korean Peninsula.
