South Korea sending 750,000 COVID-19 test kits to U.S.

Following a phone call last month between the leaders of South Korea and the U.S., Seoul is shipping 750-thousand COVID-19 test kits to the United States to help in its fight against the virus.

The first of two deliveries of South Korean test kits will be shipped to the U.S. tonight following an appeal from President Trump to President Moon Jae-in.
South Korea has previously sent test kits to individual U.S. states, but this is the first shipment directly to the U.S. federal government.
South Korea's Foreign Ministry can't disclose the details of the shipment due to an agreement between the two countries… but Reuters has reported that 750,000 test kits will be sold to the U.S., and will be provided by three Korean companies.
The first shipment, scheduled for Tuesday night, will contain 600-thousand kits provided by two companies.
The rest of the kits will be sent from the third company in the near future.
The shipments were made possible because, two weeks ago, test kit-makers in South Korea received interim approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Following the approval, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency signed contracts to import the kits.
South Korea has been receiving requests for its test kits from all over the world, and President Moon has said he will do what he can to help.
