Chicken Cafreal is a Portuguese adopted recipe which was brought into Goa with few changes. This recipe is now popularly prepared in Goa. It is actually a chicken gravy recipe prepared in Goan style consisting of Chicken and spicy masala gravy.
Ingredients:
(Serves 2)
- 1/2 kg Chicken
- 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Lemon Juice
- Salt
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks
- 3 Green Cardamoms
- 5-6 Black Pepper Corns
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 5-6 Cloves
- 1 tsp Poppy Seeds (crushed)
- 4-5 Green Chillies
- 5-6 Garlic cloves
- 1 cup Coriander Leaves (chopped)
- 1/2 tsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Vinegar
- 1 inch Ginger
- Water
- 4-5 tbsp Oil
- 1 cup Onion (chopped)
- 1 cup Tomato (chopped)
- 2 tbsp Chilli Sauce
- 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
- Salt
Method:
1. Take chicken in a bowl and add turmeric powder, lemon juice, salt and mix it.
2. Now heat a pan, add cinnamon sticks, green cardamoms, black pepper corns, cumin seeds, cloves and crushed poppy seeds.
3. Take the dry masala, green chillies, garlic cloves, crush coriander leaves, sugar, vinegar and ginger in a blender. Blend these ingredients by adding some water as well and make a paste.
4. Pour this paste into the chicken, mix it properly and keep the chicken aside now for marination.
5. Heat a wok, add oil, finely chopped onion, tomato, chilli sauce, soy sauce, tomato ketchup and salt. Keep the flame low.
6. Now pour the marinated chicken into this mixture in wok. And saute it properly.
7. Cover the wok with a lid and cook this chicken for some time till it becomes soft.
8. Turn off the flame once the chicken is cooked well. Now your Chicken Cafreal is ready to be served!
