U.S. approves S. Korea's new ambassador after delay
  • 5 years ago
South Korea's presidential office says its nominee for U.S. ambassador, Lee Soo-hyuk,... has been approved by Washington.
Blue House Deputy Spokesperson Han Jung-woo told reporters this morning,... that the U.S. gave its consent yesterday and that Lee will soon be appointed.
Lee had to wait an unusually long time for his approval two months which some speculate might reflect Washington's disapproval of the Moon administration's decision to terminate its military intel-sharing pact with Japan.
Lee is a lawmaker with the ruling Democratic Party of Korea.
He's experienced in inter-Korean affairs,... having negotiated on behalf of South Korea in the first six-party talks.
