President Moon Jae-in asked Koreans living abroad,... to join his efforts in establishing peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula,... while speaking at an event to celebrate the 13th World Korean Day on Saturday.
Here's what he said.
"Just as our national flag united us 100 years ago, I ask that our compatriots join us in efforts to achieve peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula. Like your sincere efforts that led to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics being successfully hosted as a 'peace Olympics,' and I hope you will help make the 2032 Seoul-Pyeongyang Olympics happen as well."
The President also promised to build a country that is strong at its foundation,... and one that every Korean can be proud of.
Crediting overseas Koreans for their part in the country's achievements over the last one hundred years,... he underscored their future role in shaping the next century of Korea's history.
The World Korean Day aims to better recognize the 7-and-a-half million Koreans living abroad and boost national pride.
