S. Korean lawmaker meets with senior member of Japan's ruling party

Senior South Korean lawmaker Park Jie-won has returned from a visit to Japan... where he met with a ranking member of Tokyo's ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
Park went as a special envoy of the National Assembly Speaker.
In a press conference on Tuesday,... he said he held candid talks with Toshihiro Nikai, secretary general of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party,... in a meeting that lasted well over five hours.
Although he didn't reveal what was discussed,... Park said that he felt that Japan shares the idea that Seoul and Tokyo should pursue future-oriented ties.
Park added that he got the idea that Tokyo was positive about President Moon Jae-in's Liberation Day speech,... in which he said he would join hands with Japan should it choose the path of cooperation.
Earlier this month,... a South Korean parliamentary delegation visiting Japan was scheduled to meet with Nikai,... but it was called off at the Japanese side's request.
