The nation's foreign ministry says negotiations on how to split the bill for U.S. military presence on South Korean soil has not officially started.
The comments were made after President Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday that talks on the matter have begun,... and Seoul agreed to pay "substantially more" to Washington.
Trump said Washington had been paid "very little" by South Korea over the decades, but the amount increased in 2018.
Noting that the South is now a wealthy country,... he added that talks have begun to further increase payments,.. with Seoul feeling obligated to contribute more.
The nation's foreign ministry said the two governments have so far agreed to hold "fair" and "rational" negotiations on shared military costs... and that specific details will be discussed at the eleventh round of special-measures agreement bilateral talks.
