The U.S. is proposing a "mediation plan" to South Korea and Japan to prevent further damage to their worsening bilateral ties.
Citing an American official,... Japan's Asahi Shimbun reported on Wednesday that Washington has urged Tokyo to refrain from removing Seoul from its 'whitelist' of 27 countries that are given leniency in buying Japanese goods.
It also reported Washington demanded South Korea not liquidate the assets of Japanese firms in order to compensate South Koreans victims of wartime forced labor as ordered by Seoul's top court.
