S. Korea's electronics industry ranks 3rd by production in 2018

South Korea's electronics industry was ranked third largest in the world last year in terms of production …boosted by strong sales of memory chips.
According to a report by the Korea Electronics Association, the Korean electronics industry produced 171-point-one billion U.S. dollars' worth of goods in 2018, …making up eight-point-eight percent of the global market.
Korea trails only China and the United States, …which make up 37-point-two percent and 12-point-six percent of the market, respectively.
Over the five years until 2018, production in electronics rose by 53-point-three percent …thanks to strong performances by chipmakers like Samsung Electronics and SK hynix.
The vast majority of that volume, however, was electronic parts like semiconductors, so there's a concern that in tough times, like with Japan's export restrictions, that overreliance could become a problem.
