The National Assembly's special budget committee has kickstarted its review of the government's 5-point-7 billion U.S. dollar extra budget bill.
Today, rival lawmakers on the committee are holding a general Q&A session with cabinet members,... including Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon.
Of the extra budget,... 1-point-9 billion dollars has been set aside to support recovery efforts following a series of natural disasters,... while the remainder will be used to tackle downside economic risks.
The ruling Democratic Party is also trying to add about 2-hundred-50 million dollars to support the government's efforts to deal with Japan's export restrictions on South Korea.
The opposition bloc has warned of major cuts,... with some claiming the extra budget is aimed at winning over voters ahead of next year's general elections.
The budget bill was submitted to the National Assembly in late April.
