Starting next year, France will charge an "eco tax" for all flights flying out of French airports.
In its efforts to protect the environment, the French government said the revenue will be used to finance daily transport in France.
The amount of tax due will depend on where the plane is heading and the type of ticket bought, costing anywhere from one to 20 U.S. dollars.
France also hopes to push for an end to global tax exemptions on jet fuel to reduce CO2 emissions.
Other countries that already have "eco" taxes on flights are the UK and Germany.
Places like Ireland, the Netherlands and Belgium failed in their attempts due to political opposition.
