Samsung Electronics third in global race for AI-related patents

Samsung Electronics is the third largest patent holder when it comes to artificial intelligence.
According to a German market research firm IPlytics,... the South Korean tech giant owned 11-thousand-2-hundred-and-43 patents on AI technology as of January this year.
That's the third largest number,... after Microsoft and IBM,... which hold over 18-thousand and 15-thousand patents respectively.
Qualcomm holds 11-thousand patents,... with Google running behind with around nine-and-a-half-thousand.
Out of the top ten AI-related patent owners,... five were U.S. firms and two were Japanese.
In terms of filing applications,... the U.S., China and Europe topped the figures, indicating a higher level of research activities.
