President Moon Jae-in has also congratulated director Bong Joon-ho for his success at Cannes.
The president used Twitter to say the director and all those who worked on 'Parasite' had brought pride to Korean cinema in the year that the industry celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Moon thanked Bong on behalf of the Korean people, and said that "Bong had risen to the top as one of the world's best directors".
He added that he can't wait to watch the movie himself.
