DP floor leader stresses "people's livelihood and peace" at speech in parliament
  • 5 years ago
Peace and improving people's livelihoods.
These were the two key themes of ruling Democratic Party floor leader Hong Young-pyo's speech at the National Assembly on Monday.
During his speech as the leader of one of the parliament's negotiating blocs, Hong stressed that rival parties should cooperate and break the walls between them for the good of the nation.
He also highlighted the urgency for parliament to pass bills related to public welfare such as those on judiciary reform and the redistribution of investigative powers between police and prosecutors... as well as investigations into corruption by high-ranking government officials.
This will mark the first and last time Hong delivers a representative speech as the floor leader of the ruling bloc before his term ends this May.
