So North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be out of his country for the longest time ever since he took power in late 2011... and watchers say, this shows how he's more confident now in his regime's stability.
Park Ji-won has more.
Kim Jong-un and his delegation traveled to Vietnam in his heavily-armored train.
Instead of taking a flight to Hanoi, which would've taken a few hours there and back... Kim opted to go by train, a round-trip that will take nearly six days in total.
If he leaves Hanoi early next month,.. he will be away from North Korea for nearly ten days.
It's expected Kim could meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on his way back to the North to explain the result of his second summit with President Trump.
Kim Jong-un's grandfather,... the late Kim Il-sung, who also was the leader of North Korea,... held bilateral talks in 1958,... with Mao Zedong,.. the then-leader of China,... after his first visit to Vietnam.
Watchers think the fact Kim Jong-un can take such an extended period away from North Korea shows his grip on power is stable.
Some also see it as Kim's willingness to travel long distances to meet with other world leaders.
North Korean state-run media,... the Korean Central News Agency and the Rodong Shinmun,... also reported immediately on Kim's departure last weekend from Pyeongyang train station.
That's in contrast to last June,... when they didn't report on his departure to Singapore until his arrival in the Southeast Asian city state.
During Kim Jong-un's absence,.. his close aide Choe Ryon-hae,... along with key officials from the Bureau of Political Security are expected to fill the vacuum in Pyeongyang.
