South Korea is joining an Antarctic inspection team with Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.
The oceans and foreign ministries on Friday announced that South Korea will take part in a two-week long inspection of the Antarctic starting Sunday.
The delegation will look around the facilities of Antarctic bases, vessels and aircraft of other member countries under the Antarctic Treaty.
The ten-member delegation from four participating nations will report their findings to the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting after their inspection near Anvers Island.
The ministries said Korea's decision to join the inspection comes from the need for a new approach to joint international inspections.
