1 Ruru was an adherent worshiper of the Trideva (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva), who belonged to the family of Asura Hiranyaksha.

2 He was a very powerful demon who rule over Ratnapuri. It is believed that he had the ability to perform all the severe Tapasharya (penance) to please the gods.

3 It is said that he had received many boons from the trinity which includes the boon from Lord Brahma that made him invincible.

4 In the text of Varaha Purana, it is mentioned that after being defeated by this dreaded beast, the deities sought help from Goddess Raudri.

5 Goddess Raudri was none other than a violent form of Mata Parvati just like Chamunda. She assassinated the demon after a fierce clash that took place between them.

6 Some believe that the demon actually wanted to marry Mata Parvati and had started performing intense Tapasya to win her as his wife.

7 The trinity was bound to his words because of his penance, so Mata Parvati had to appear in her Raudri avatar to destroy Ruru.
