Locals clean out supermarket as Typhoon Mangkhut nears Hong Kong

Locals in Hong Kong scrambled to do last-minute grocery shopping on Saturday as Typhoon Mangkhut approached the city.

Supermarket workers were seen replenishing empty shelves with essentials, such as eggs.

Some freezer compartments had been cleaned out by shoppers preparing for the worst.

Elsewhere in the city, shopkeepers taped up their windows in the hope of protecting them from high winds and flying debris.

Local authorities have said the typhoon will be the most powerful to hit Hong Kong since records began.
