Primary labor force enduring one of Korea's worst unemployment crises
  • 6 years ago
The nation's primary labor force is going through arguably the worst unemployment crises to date.
According to Hyundai Research Institute, by July, the number of recruits in their forties dipped for 31 consecutive months.
It's the longest decline since 1982, when records were first compiled.
Citing data released by Statistics Korea earlier this month, the think tank adds, due mainly to worsening job conditions in construction and manufacturing, the digits for those in their 30s, plummetted 8 months straight.
There seemed to be some encouraging signs when it comes to employment numbers for people in their 50s and 60s, but closer look reveals most of these posts were part-time, not permanent ones.
