Gov't to announce plans to tackle South Korea's high youth unemployment rate
  • 6 years ago
The South Korean government will announce new measures today aimed at getting more young people into work... as the youth unemployment rate remains stubbornly high.
The finance ministry says the government is considering granting allowances to young job seekers and creating a supplementary budget, as well as giving companies that hire them tax breaks or subsidies,... hoping to mobilize all the tools at its disposal to create more quality jobs.
The plan may include using the extra budget sometime during the first half of the year.
This follows President Moon Jae-in's calls for *all-out efforts to create quality jobs for young Koreans,... calling the high youth jobless rate a national disaster.
South Korea's youth unemployment rate eased a touch in February compared to the same month last year,... the figure remains high at nine-point-eight percent.
