Japan to teach Dokdo Island as Japanese territory
  • 6 years ago
South Korea's Foreign Ministry has expressed regret over Japan's recent revision of its teaching manual.
On Tuesday, Tokyo's education ministry posted a guide for instructors to incorrectly teach students that Korea's Dokdo Island is Japanese territory from next year -- the change coming three years earlier than planned.
Stressing that Dokdo is Korean territory historically, geographically and under international law..., the ministry says Seoul views this act as an "unwillingness of Japan's government to reflect on its past mistakes and proceed to a new future".
The foreign ministry added Korea won't tolerate any provocations over the easternmost Islets... and called on its neighboring country to immediately withdraw the plan.
The ministry also summoned Kohei Maruyama, a minister at the Japanese Embassy on Tuesday over the same matter.
