U.S. looks forward to final, fully verified denuclearization of North Korea: Pompeo
  • 6 years ago
Let's begin with Mike Pompeo's high-stakes trip to Pyongyang.
The U.S. Secretary of State is due in the North Korean capital on Friday as Washington looks to come home with a roadmap for the regime's nuclear disarmament.
Pompeo tweeted on Thursday that he's looking forward to continuing their work "toward the final, verified denuclearization" of North Korea, "as agreed to by Chairman Kim (Jong-un)."
Pompeo is scheduled to be in Pyongyang for around a day-and-a-half,... most of which time will be spent in meetings with North Korean officials,... including with the North Korean leader.
The key issues will include securing a declaration of all of North Korea's nuclear arsenal, a verification regime for dismantlement and a timeline for denuclearization.
We'll have more updates throughout the day as we get them.
