Watch: US President Trump orders end to separation of immigrant families
  • 6 years ago
President Donald Trump has ended the policy of separating immigrant families on the US-Mexico border, reversing a tough policy under heavy pressure from his fellow Republicans, Democrats and the international community. Bowing to pressure and widespread protests, he signed an executive order on June 20 against the move of his administration to separate children from their parents who illegally enter the country. Immigrant families will now be detained together when caught for as long as their criminal proceedings take. Moving images and audio recordings of crying children held in cages or tents at border facilities had dominated news for weeks but Trump had insisted he was bound by the law to split children from their parents.
