Trump finally orders flags lowered to honor John McCain
  • 6 years ago
The American flag became the focus of national attention on Monday. With the passing of Republican senator John McCain, the US administration remained in doubt. They debated over whether or not to lower the flag on the White House in McCain's honor. Over the weekend, the flag flew at half-staff. But on Monday, it was raised again and then lowered again amidst criticism. Late senator John McCain was a national hero and an unrelenting critic of President Donald Trump. President’s first response to his death was a dry tweet. It addressed the late senator’s family and not the departed leader. Two days after Sen. John McCain's death, the president says he respects the senator's "service to our country." Trump and McCain have feuded for years. But on Monday Trump changed his mind. He asked the Vice President Mike Pence to speak at a ceremony honoring McCain.
