US President Donald Trump stunned the world on Monday by not criticizing Putin for Russia’s meddling with the 2016 US elections. Trump adopted a defiant posture two days after the Helsinki summit and called his critics deranged. This sparked fury in the US and led some U.S. lawmakers to demand for tougher sanctions and other actions to punish Russia. U.S. intelligence officials have said Russia’s efforts to undermine elections are ongoing and now targeting the Nov. 6 congressional races. On Wednesday, demonstrators gathered in New York City's Times Square to denounce the US President. The protesters held signs accusing Trump of treason. They also chanted 'we the people say you are fired,' using his line from when he was host of the TV show "The Apprentice."
