The Blue House has tapped the deputy commissioner general (Min Gam-yong) Min Gab-ryong to head South Korea's police.

"The nominee will be formally appointed after a parliamentary confirmation hearing."

According to the Blue House, the nomination was based on the judgment that Min has a high level of understanding of the administration's security policy, after working alongside with the current commissioner general for months.
It said he's the right person to ensure the continuation of the government's efforts to bring about police reform.
Lee Chul-sung,... the current Commissioner General,.. is set to retire at the end of June.
