White House to announce trade restrictions on China over IP violations

The Trump administration is reportedly planning to ramp up trade restrictions on China as it believes Beijing has damaged the U.S. through forced technology transfer.
While the duties will not take effect immediately,... experts worry that such a strong measure could spark a trade war between the world's two biggest economies.
Kim Hyo-sun reports. The White House is said to be planning a package of tariffs and other trade restrictions against China.
According to the Wall Street Journal,... Washington's trade restraints on China including tariffs on imports worth at least 30 billion U.S. dollars,... are part of a crackdown on Beijing's intellectual property violations.
Such measures stem from the Trump administration's investigation into China's practices,... which has found that state-owned Chinese firms purchase U.S. technology for military use or to gain a competitive edge in the global technological race instead of commercial purposes.
The tariffs,... however,... will not be imposed immediately,... and the administration
plans to make the final decision after collecting opinions from U.S. industry on which products should be subject to the duties.
Also as part of the package,... Washington is likely to restrict Chinese firms from investing in the U.S.
Meanwhile on Thursday,... the White House is expected to roll out its final decision on whether South Korean steel will be subject to anti-dumping duties of 25 percent,... as the tariffs are scheduled to take effect on March 23rd.
