The MeToo movement is sweeping through South Korea's political sphere -- the latest revelation of alleged sexual assault involving an incumbent lawmaker.
On Saturday, a woman accused Min Byung-doo -- a three term lawmaker of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea -- of sexual harassment back in 2008.
Min, however, said he was not engaged in any problematic behavior -- adding he would resign and reveal the truth to restore his honor.
The ruling party,... already hit following a case involving a prominent figure from its party -- has asked Min to rethink giving up his post saying that revealing the truth should come first.
But the party is not being lenient in all cases,... especially as the MeToo movement has the potential to become a variable in the June local elections.
The party has vowed to undergo tighter screening for those planning to run in the local elections, with a number of preliminary candidates for key posts also suspected of sexual assault or adultery.
