Many were confused and questioned why Trump would boast about such a poll.
"I mean, who would even brag about a 45% approval rating anyway?" wrote one tweeter.
"Congratulations sir!! If it goes much higher we don't even need to hold an election for your next term!!" someone else tweeted.
While the Politico/Morning Consult poll did show 51% disapproval, the 45% approval rating is the highest since late September.
The poll was conducted from December 1 to December 3, a period that saw the Senate's passage of the Republican tax bill.
