President Trump on Thursday apparently overstated his job approval.

President Trump on Thursday apparently overstated his job approval rating in an online post, reports the Washington Post. In a tweet, he shared a graphic aired on Fox Business Network's 'Lou Dobbs Tonight' that showed Trump at 55% overall approval and carried the header that described the number as "soaring."  "Great News! #MAGA" Trump wrote. According to the Washington Post, the Georgetown University Institute of Politics and Public Service poll cited actually reports the president's job approval as 43%.  Mo Elleithee, the director of the institute, was quick to correct the record, announcing via Twitter that "the 55% number is the President's unfavorable rating."
Notably, in the past, Trump has suggested his approval numbers would be a lot higher in the absence of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.
"Without the phony Russia Witch Hunt, and with all that we have accomplished in the last almost two years (Tax & Regulation Cuts, Judge's, Military, Vets, etc.) my approval rating would be at 75% rather than the 50% just reported by Rasmussen," Trump tweeted in December. "It's called Presidential Harassment!"
The president is also quick to dismiss polls that show lower approval ratings.
Months ago, at a rally in Tampa, Florida, he told his audience that "polls are fake, just like everything else."
