President Trump’s approval rating has hit its highest point since late September in a new poll.

President Trump's approval rating has hit its highest point since late September.
Politico/Morning Consult poll results published on Wednesday show that 45% of respondents give the leader approving marks, while 51% expressed disapproval.
The poll was conducted from December 1 to December 3, a period that saw the Senate's passage of the Republican tax bill.
Another topic addressed in the poll was the looming threat of a government shutdown.
63% of respondents said that should be avoided no matter what and only 18% found it a worthwhile means of gaining ground on policy issues.
That said, when questioned on the relative importance of particular matters under debate, participants were less resolute in their responses.
42% cited the reauthorization of the Children's Health Insurance Program as an acceptable reason for a shutdown, and 34% expressed a similar view in regard to providing hurricane aide to Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico.
The Politico/Morning Consult poll involved 1,997 registered U.S. voters.
