BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WASHINGTON — A man on a sailboat in Puget Sound was taken out by police after an hours-long standoff.

Just off Bainbridge Island, late Saturday night, the man was reportedly seen unloading his rifle at neighboring boats in the harbor. When police arrived on scene, officers used a range of tactics to convince him to surrender, which included a helicopter and smoking devices, according to KOMO News.

Not only were the cops unable to phase the gunman, they must have sent him off the edge. After taking a break from exchanging gunfire from 11 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., he emerged from his boat naked and carrying his rifle. When he took aim at the police officers, they responded in turn, shooting him on his boat. The shot proved to be fatal.

The gunman’s identity has not been released at this time. Police have not yet reported a motive for the suspect’s actions.
