MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA — Police dashcam video has captured the moment a Florida police officer was shot at during a routine traffic stop.

Footage captured on Sunday, May 29, at around 3 a.m. and posted to LiveLeak shows a Miami Gardens, Florida, cop stopping suspect Gary Sprauve, 37, near 183rd Street and 12th Avenue for driving without headlights.

The officer stood outside Sprauve’s driver side door when the suspect fired his weapon. Remarkably, the officer dodged the bullet and fired back, hitting Sprauve on the hand as he drove off.

That led to a police pursuit, which ended at 191st Street and North Miami Avenue, where officers were able to stop the suspect with spike strips. Sprauve was taken to the hospital to be treated before being booked. The officer’s vehicle took a hit but he was uninjured.

Sprauve faces charges of attempted first-degree murder on a police officer and utilization of a firearm under the commission of a felony.
