Charlie Hebdo latest issue depicts victims of Italy earthquake as pasta dishes

The latest issue of the satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo depicts the victims of earthquake in Italy as pasta dishes. Titled as Seisme a L'Italienne i.e. Earthquake Italian Style, the cartoon shows a man, a woman, and a mass of people, labelled as Pasta with tomato sauce, Pasta gratin and Lasagna.

It has received huge criticism globally. People have taken to social media to vent out their anger. An official statement has been released by the French embassy in Italy saying that "cartoons were not representative of France's position."

Charlie Hebdo is not new to controversy and it has been accused before of publishing insensitive and hurtful cartoons.

Amidst all this, Charlie Hebdo published a second cartoon in response to the reaction of its earthquake cover.

It read: "Italiens...c'est pas Charlie Hebdo qui construit vos maisons, c'est la Mafia!" ~ "Italian...it's not Charlie Hebdo that built your homes, it's the mafia!"
