The yoga Lion Pose is a very uncommon yoga pose in that it does not require any bending or stretching of the body. It is a pose that helps relieve stress. It is called the Simhasana because in Sanskrit, 'simha' means all powerful and is the term commonly used to denote a lion. The Lion Pose for kids is very popular because of the way the pose is held. In fact, children tend to perform the Lion Yoga Pose better than adults! This posture can be practiced two ways, one utilizing the breath and the other the voice. Practicing Simhasana will free the mind and body of negative energy while opening up the throat chakra for clear, honest communication with self and others. Energetically brings courage to and frees our voices so we can be fully heard in this world. The practice of Simhasana will almost always make you smile and feel light hearted after.

Tip
Some people like to add a little 'roar' as they open their mouths.

Step 4: Hold expression
Hold the facial expression for the entire length of your exhale.

Step 5: Relax face
When the exhale is done, relax your face.

Step 6: Return & repeat
Return to your comfortable sitting position. You can repeat the facial expression anytime—whether you're in the Extended Side Angle Pose or just impersonating Gene Simmons.
