Former North Charleston Police Department officer Michael Slager has been dismissed after being charged with the murder of 50-year-old Walter Scott on Tuesday.

Prior to the release of video of the shooting, an NCPD spokesman released a report claiming that officer Slager, 33, fatally shot Scott following a struggle for the officer's taser on Saturday.

According to the report of what happened on the day of the shooting, at 9:30 a.m., Slager conducted a traffic stop on Scott's car for a non-functioning brake light. Slager then claimed Scott fled, forcing him to pursue the older man on foot to a vacant grassy lot. Slager says he deployed his department-issued taser to detain Scott, but found it ineffective.

Slager claimed there was a struggle over the taser which was used on the Scott managed to get and use it on Slager. Slager claimed that he then discharged his service weapon at Scott because he feared for his life.

Slager could face the death penalty.
