South Carolina: Video shows details of Walter Scott's police murder
  • 9 years ago
Officer Michael Slager, the police officer who has been charged with murder in the death of 50-year-old Walter Scott in North Charleston, South Carolina last weekend eventually claimed that he feared for his life and that Scott grabbed his taser in a scuffle leading up to Scott's death. A witness disputed the officer's statement, and a video now circulating online shows the officer shooting in the back and killing an apparently unarmed man. The video also shows Slager dropping an object near Scott's body. If the object is the taser in question, the officer could be accused of the serious charge of planting evidence. On Wednesday, Black Lives Matters protesters outside North Charleston City Hall said that such treatment of African Americans has been going on for decades, but now that more people carry cell phones and recording devices, there's more evidence of these incidents.
