Wales headlines 19 October: Welsh Water illegally dumping sewage, St David’s Hall to close for 18 months, Wrexham sweet chestnut named tree of the year
  • 6 months ago
Welsh Water has admitted to illegally dumping untreated sewage in rivers for at least a decade. Analysis from campaign group Windrush against sewage pollution showed that sewage had been spilling into a number of areas, including near a protected rare dolphin habitat. Welsh water say they are working to fix the issue.

St David’s hall in Cardiff will be closed until 2025 in order to replace the roof over concerns of concrete panels that could collapse at the venue. RAAC has closed a number of schools and hospitals across Wales, with the classical music venue in the centre of Cardiff hoping to be open for July 2025.

A sweet chestnut tree in Wrexham has been named as tree of the year after beating 12 other trees in a UK-wide competition. The tree in Acton park is 484 years old and has been standing since the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first. The urban tree was prized for its beauty and history.
