Wales headlines 4 August: Doctors reject 5% pay offer, Julien MacDonald’s firm in liquidation, campaigner wins case over English-only parking fine
  • 9 months ago
Doctors in Wales have rejected a 5% pay rise, saying it is the worst anywhere in the UK. The pay rise would have affected all junior doctors, consultants and specialists, but the British Medical Association will now decide whether to take industrial action. The Welsh government say without UK money, there are limits to possible pay rises.

The company of Julien MacDonald, one of Wales’ most famous and prominent fashion designers, has gone into liquidation. MacDonald has designed outfits for J-Lo and Beyoncé, as well as the Welsh commonwealth games outfits, but employees have now been sacked, with assets sold off.

A Welsh language campaigner has won his case after refusing to pay for a fine issued only in English. Toni Schiavone was fined £70 by One Parking Solutions in Llangrannog, but was not given a copy in Welsh. After a number of cases back and forth, a judge in Aberystwyth said the company’s case was flawed.
