Wales headlines August 1: Police officer on trial for child sex charges, Amy Dowden starts chemotherapy, Paul Mullin recovering in California

A Gwent Police officer is currently in Cardiff Crown Court over allegations of sexual offences of a child under 13. The court heard John Stringer, 41, sexually assaulted a young girl and showed her pornography, which the defendant denies. The case is currently still underway.

Welsh Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has revealed on social media that she has started undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed stage 3 breast cancer earlier on this year, which has since spread. She said she wanted to raise awareness, particularly how to check yourself for cancer.

Wrexham will be without their star striker Paul Mullin as they start their long awaited League 2 campaign on the weekend. The 28 year old was injured in preseason, and will now spend a few weeks being pampered by the side’s Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds out in California. Not a bad place for sick leave eh.
