I Get Hate - But I Love My Face Tattoos | HOOKED ON THE LOOK

TANNING, tattoos, and fillers have helped an Essex mum get over her drug addiction and feel “beautiful”. Sarah-Jane Howell, 25, has been getting tattoos since she was 18 and now has dozens of designs covering her body, including her face. She says getting inked and tanning every day helped her overcome her drug addiction and gave her something to focus on besides substance abuse. She said: "When I first started getting tattoos the thing I liked the most was I could portray myself how I want to. My mental health wasn’t good and I found the tattoos were a bit of a release for me. I also feel beautiful when I’m tanned. I don’t like being pale. I’ll go without getting my nails done, I’ll even go without dinner for a tan." Sarah – who has a seven-year-old daughter – has lost count of how many tattoos she has but currently has ink on her arms, legs, lower back and stomach, chest, neck, fingers, and her face. She recently got a butterfly tattooed on her face to cover up a previous tattoo of a sad angel which represented much darker times. Aside from going to a tanning salon every day, Sarah also enjoys getting filler in her lips – despite her appearance causing some negative comments. She said: “I regularly get called to a school desk and get told it looks like I’ve fallen asleep and my kid’s drawn on me. But our bodies are our temples and we should decorate them how we see fit. I’m secure in myself.”
