The North Korean regime has circled early January in the calendar for its long-anticipated party congress.
The North's state media says officials are all set for the rare event.
Kim Dami has the details.
Chairing a politburo meeting of the ruling Workers' Party on Tuesday, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un decided to hold the party's congress in early January.
The North's state-run media reported Wednesday that the meeting was focused on confirming the agenda for the regime's eighth congress.
No specific dates were announced.
But watchers expect it to take place sometime between January 4th and the 7th, considering a large number of congress' attendees will pay tribute at the Kumsusan Palace at the start of the new year.
On top of that, January 8th is Kim Jong-un's birthday.
The event will be the first of its kind in four years.
It's expected to cover a range of matters... including a five-year economic development plan and new policy lines toward Seoul and Washington amid frozen denuclearization talks.
There may possibly be a message for the incoming Biden administration.
Tuesday's meeting also reviewed the achievements and progress made during the regime's so-called '80-day campaign'.
In October, Kim launched the two month-long project to achieve national and economic goals ahead of the January congress.
The regime's state media said innovative achievements in all fields have laid a great foundation for the upcoming event.
