UNESCO to decide on adding Yeondeunghoe lantern festival to list of intangible cultural assets

South Korea's annual lantern lighting festival Yeondeunghoe could soon finally be added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural assets.
The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage will make the decision in their session in Paris on Wednesday.
The session, which is livestreamed on the UNESCO website, starts at 9:30 PM Korea time.
If successful,... the event to celebrate Buddha's birthday will become South Korea's 21st intangible cultural asset inscribed on the list.
The annual ritual is held every eighth day of the fourth lunar month,... with colorful lanterns lighting up streets and Buddhist temples.
