South Korea's National Assembly has passed the law that prohibits the scattering of anti-Pyeongyang leaflets near the inter-Korean border.
The revision to the Development of Inter-Korean Relations Act was passed on Monday during a plenary session.
The ruling party which holds the majority in the assembly agreed to the bill saying it's for the safety of South Korean residents near border.
The conservative main opposition party did not participate, saying it impacts people's freedom of speech.
Violators could face up to three years in jail or a fine of up to 27-thousand U.S. dollars.
