The Japanese government is reportedly planning to name its ambassador to South Korea, Koji Tomita, as its new U.S. envoy.
Kyoto News Agency reported Monday that Ambassador Tomita has both experience and personal connections with the incoming U.S. administration.
He just became the ambassador to Seoul in October last year,... and has been faced with a myriad of challenges as bilateral ties have sunk to a historic low over wartime labor and trade issues.
The report added that he could be replaced with Koichi Aiboshi, Tokyo's current ambassador to Israel.
