South Korea's National Assembly has passed a bill that would allow globally recognized male pop culture artists like BTS to postpone their mandatory military duties.
The assembly's plenary session gave the green light to a revision of the Military Service Act,... which would grant an exceptional rights to defer national defense duties to acclaimed stars,... until the age of 30.
The revision was first proposed in September after BTS became the first-ever South Korean pop artist to top the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
Prior to the revision,... military service exemptions or deferrals were only given to international medal-winning athletes or classical musicians.
