Kim Hyo-sun reports.
The half-nephew of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly been taken into custody by the CIA,... but his whereabouts are unknown as of now.
This is according to commentary by Suki Kim, a Korean-American writer for the New Yorker.
The article, published Monday, describes how Kim Han-sol,... fled the reclusive state.
He's the son of Kim Jong-nam, Kim Jong-un's half-brother who was assassinated with nerve agent in 2017 at an airport in Malaysia.
The commentary, titled "The Underground Movement Trying to Topple the North Korean Regime," also explained how a secret network mobilizing against the North's regime called Free Joseon attempted to help him seek refuge in the Netherlands some three years ago.
But it added Kim went missing while being accompanied by a CIA agent.
The rescue of Kim Han-sol was made possible with the help of the members of Free Joseon,... namely, Adrian Hong Chang and Christopher Ahn,... a former U.S. marine.
They were also involved in a raid on the North Korean Embassy in Spain in 2019.
