'일본해' 대신 고유번호 표기...오늘 국제수로기구서 결정

The International Hydrographic Organization will meet on Monday to decide whether to call the East Sea by a numerical identifier,... instead of the Sea of Japan.
During the two-day virtual meeting, the IHO will decide whether to refer to global seas by numbers rather than using specific names.
Sources say a number of IHO members are in favor of the idea.
South and North Korea say the stretch of water should be referred to as both the 'East Sea' and the 'Sea of Japan',... but haven't been able to reach a consensus with Tokyo.
The two Koreas believe the name 'Sea of Japan' is a reminder of Tokyo's past imperialism, as it was officially named when the Korean Peninsula was colonized by Japan and Korea had no say in the naming.
